Picture Guide for Install Debian Server

Debian is widely used as server os for private small businesses as well as Mega corporations. In this article, we will install minimal Debian server edition step by step. Of course GUI will not be included in this installation. Installation will be fully illustrated with pictures with minimal comment as possible to provide easy to follow guide.

  • Download Balena Etcher from here

Use USB to etch debian image on it

Now insert the USB in your computer and boot from USB. After booting, the following GUI will appear. Select Install option:

Select language:

Choose your location:

Click next and wait:

You can skip it and configure the host name and domain later

Enter user’s password:

Confirm that password:

Create a Linux user account name. Here we used administrator as user

Now select the timezone:

You will have now the installation destination i.e. HDD installation location. Here we recommend use empty hard drive and use the entire disk space.

Select the disk:

Afterward, your new partitions are created and formatted. Now the base system is installed:

Select the mirror to be used:

Unless you use an HTTP proxy, leave the following field empty and hit Continue:

Apt is now updating its packages database:

You can skip the package usage survey by selecting No:

In order to control the server remotely SSH server should be selected. Other functions will be deleted to increase server robustness.

Remove Installation media and reboot

Now you have functioning computer with debian os. In the next article we discuss debian settings using terminal and server automation.
